Take the Youtube Challenge

Are you sick of these voting contests going around the internet? Yeah, me too. That’s why I decided to create one of our own. This one is going to be a little bit different, though. There’s no cash involved, so that should cut down on a lot of the begging for votes. We’re not doing it so we get extra money from our advertisers, since we don’t do that in the first place. This is going to be a fun way to get your kids thinking about philanthropy and practice being interviewed on camera.

The question we want answered is “How in your lifetime do you plan to change the world?

Here are the rules:

  1. Your child (aged under 18 please) must answer the question in his/her own way on camera and this be included in the video. You will send this video to your own Youtube channel, mark it as public and send us the link.
  2. The video should not be longer than 3 minutes.
  3. You can use any other footage in the short film to help support your child’s idea. Bonus points if the child produces the video him/herself.
  4. Content must focus on giving back. Any business promotions will be rejected.
  5. Video must be in English (only because I am not educated enough to be able to speak more than one language.)

Note that this contest will be open to our heroes (with the exception of our founder MaryMargaret) but they will not be given any preferential treatment.

So if we are not giving away money, what’s the prize? Well the first thing you will get is the benefit of your child going through this exercise. Practicing public speaking can never be done too much, as this is a skill many adults lack but would love to have. But yes we will offer more than that. The top 25 videos, selected by an elite panel of judges, will be featured on our web site. From that arrangement 5 videos will be selected. Fans will be asked to vote for their favorite. The winning video will be the featured video on our Youtube site for one month, and I will tweet out the link at least once to more than 400,000 people via our JustCoz account.

So get busy and send your entry to youtubechallenge@kidsareheroes.org by June 30th. Good luck!
